THE LAW OF THE MIND – Our Thoughts Are Powerful Things

“He who grasps the truth of the Mental Nature of the Universe is well advanced

on the Path to Mastery” – Hermes

The underlying reality of the Universe is “Mind” or “Consciousness”. Therefore, our thoughts are things which have the power to transform the conditions around us. And it is fact, that positive thinking changes our lives in positive ways, as sure as, negative thinking bring us down on all levels. So, we have to be careful, because as we can see, this Law of the Mind is neutral in its working; meaning we can create and attract either what we love or what we fear. For, every thought that we entertain is a seed for what grows in our lives; and a particular thought, either good or bad, that is continually held on to will produce some type of result in our world and lives. Therefore, like the Buddha, we must turn our attention inward and pay attention to what’s going on inside our minds.

This Law has been recognized and taught by various philosophies for millennia:

  • The Holy Bible’s Book of Proverbs states: “as man thinks in his heart, so is he” (23:7).
  • Confucius, the Chinese philosopher & teacher, said:

“Strive to keep your thoughts pure. If we had no bad thoughts, we would do no bad deeds.”

“Watch your thoughts; they become your words. Watch your words they become your actions. Watch your actions; they become your habits. Watch your habits; they become your character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”

  • And Jesus taught this law when he made such statements as:

“Go; it shall be done for you as you have believed.” (Matthew 8:10-13; Luke 7:9,10)

“It shall be done for you according to your faith (belief).” (Matthew 9:29)

“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:23-24)

And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith [belief] has made you well.” (Mark 5:34)

When a ruler of the synagogue came to Jesus for healing for his sick daughter Jesus replied “Do not be afraid, only believe.” (Mark 5:36).

In fact, the Law of The Mind, features heavily throughout the 4 Gospels and Jesus further declared the great effect our thoughts have on our lives and our connection with God when he said “it is not what goes into a man that defiles him; but the things which proceeds out of the man…For, from within, out of the heart of men, proceeds evil thoughts…” (Mark 7:15, 20-21).

All these statements mean that we are what we think; and we create what we think! Everything is first conceptualized in the mind; and once we form a thought it becomes the force, energy, or power through which things are created in the physical plane. Therefore, through our thought power, we, in essence, become the co-creators of our lives.

Now, if we have the control to keep our minds dwelling upon spiritual things it begins to align itself with God and spiritualizes the body. But, if our mind dwells upon selfish pursuits and indulgences, then it sets itself in opposition to God’s will and further separates itself from its Spiritual Source; creating a more materialistic body. And therefore, since the body is subservient to the mind, we have great power over our physical health & the cure of diseases. In fact, medical studies have shown that the mental attitude of a patient has much influence over recovery time and the cure of disease.

However, cultivating strong, happy, and healthy thoughts is not only important for our physical health, but also for our emotional, mental, and spiritual health as well. And if we strive to follow a spiritual way of life, and live in harmony with God, we need to keep our thoughts as positive, pure, loving, and compassionate as possible. We must allow the love of God to fill & renew our minds so that we no longer see differences between people, but instead only see the Spirit of God behind their eyes. We must try to make every thought come from the desire to be of help and service to others. And in this manner we can keep ourselves in alignment with God’s will. For, all He asks is that we love Him and one another.

Therefore, let us remember that God-like character doesn’t come by chance; and attunement to God cannot come from negative thinking. It is only by cultivating a God-like character, through good & spiritual thoughts, that we are able to ascend to the Divine.

God Bless & remember to always – Heed the Spirit,

Anthony
